Sovereign Grace Church Distinctives

Sovereign Grace Church’s confession of faith points to the heart of the historic Christian Faith. We believe those precious truths first delivered to the Apostles had been largely obscured until rediscovered during the Reformation. These truths are briefly explained in the following summation of what we emphasize as a church:

The Absolute Sovereignty of God in everything, especially Salvation

Sola Scriptura, that is, the Bible is the Word of God, divinely inspired, inerrant, and the sole authority for faith and life.

Sola Gratia, that is, we are saved by God’s grace alone. Totally unable to save ourselves, the elect are recipients of God’s saving grace solely through Christ’s merit.

Sola Fide, that is, the elect are saved through faith alone. Even our faith is the gift of God. All works are excluded as God alone saves according to His own sovereign good pleasure.

Soli Deo Gloria, that is, “ To God Alone be Glory.” The ultimate end of all things is God’s glory, therefore, we must govern all that we are, say, and do to glorify God. That not only is our duty, but our privilege and pleasure as well.

Sovereign Grace Church is an unique experience in our modern times in regards to ecclesiology, that is the Church. Departing from commonly traditional church government and structure, we seek to maintain a biblical ecclesiology as seen in the early church in the Book of Acts. Therefore, Sovereign Grace Church maintains the following:

  • Plurality of elders, that is, a true equality amongst the elders where all are recognized as such, rather than just one “pastor” who is essentially the CEO of the church.
  • Priesthood of all believers, that is, following the Scriptures, where all members of Christ’s Church are priests and have inherent value and worth before God. Therefore, all are called to minister in their God given capacity and gifting.
  • Rotation of Preaching, that is, recognizing that God has gifted men in this capacity, Sovereign Grace Church maintains a rotation of preaching, where these men can exercise their preaching gifts and skills expounding the Word of God.

As a body of reformational evangelicals, we are in essential agreement with the historic creeds and confessions of the Church, some of which are listed below:

  • Synod of Dordt
  • Belgic Confession
  • Heidelberg Catechism
  • The Westminster Confession
  • The London Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689 ( C.H. Spurgeon’s slight modification)
